New Restaurant in downtown Cancun!

There is a new restaurant on Avenida Tulum, in downtown Cancun. It is called Club Sandwich Cafe and it’s only one block from my home! They have only been open for a little over a week and I’ve already had 3 delicious meals there. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood!

The restaurant is owned by a delightful Canadian man that has been living and working in Cancun for several years. He missed his favorite coffee shop in Montreal, where he could go and spend hours just drinking coffee and chatting with friends, and decided to create his version here in Cancun. I’m so happy he did! I love that he happily greets most of the guests as they enter and/or says goodbye as they leave! Customer service is practically non-existent in many businesses in Cancun and it’s nice that he makes such an effort to show he is glad you stopped into his place. :-)

They have soups, salads, sandwiches, specialty coffees, cocktails, and the best desserts I’ve tasted in Mexico! Portions are large, the food is yummy, and prices are incredibly reasonable. Great music is always playing, but it’s low enough that you can enjoy conversing with your companions. The decor is very warm and inviting and the location is perfect for people-watching!

Tonight, I went to Club Sandwich Cafe for dinner with a friend and we left 4 hours later! We had a wonderful time talking, eating, and people-watching! In fact, we got a table by the front window solely for the purpose of watching the world pass by. We never felt rushed to leave, even though it was nearly midnight (their closing time).

I hope Club Sandwich Cafe will be wildly successful! (There is talk of them becoming a Merchant for The Cancun Club. I’ll keep you posted!) Be sure and stop by on your next visit to Cancun! Canadians will feel right at home because there are Canadian flags flying outside the restaurant and on many of the tables!

Hours of Operation: Monday: Closed
Tuesday thru Sunday: Noon until Midnight

Club Sandwich Cafe is located on the corner of Avenida Tulum and Calle Azucenas.

This Tuesday is……

FAT TUESDAY! For those of you that are not familiar with Fat Tuesday (the day…NOT the nightclub in Cancun), I will explain.

Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of lent. During lent (the 40 days leading up to Easter), people give up various vices…like drinking alcohol, for example. Since people will be abstaining from drinking, or whatever vice they choose to do without for the 40 days, they go crazy for the 2 weeks prior to Ash Wednesday…and especially crazy on Fat Tuesday!

This Tuesday is Fat Tuesday and I’ll be enjoying the Mardi Gras party at Fat Tuesday, the nightclub! I know some of the members of The Cancun Club will be in Cancun this week and I hope to see you there!

(I am hardly an authority on religion and if I didn’t get that right, I hope someone will be kind enough to correct me!)

Exciting News for Cancunenses!

Ok, so maybe this is just wildly exciting to me, but humor me…..

Yesterday, in Oxxo (Cancun’s version of 7-11), I found Lay’s Barbecue Potato Chips and REAL Dorito’s! Sure, we have Dorito’s, but not the same Nacho Flavor that you can find in the US…..not until NOW, that is! Both bags were marked “export”, which really is just secret code for “we are going to charge you a million dollars for these tasty snacks”. The tiny bag of Dorito’s were 8 pesos and the chips were ridiculously over-priced at 45 pesos. I wasn’t phased by that and happily forked over the cash. (I didn’t pay attention to the prices until I saw the receipt after I got home.)

Actually, there are places to score similar products in the hotel zone, but I found these downtown in MY neighborhood! There are many foods that I love from the US, but we don’t have them here. That is why this is newsworthy, to me. Now, if I could only find a roll of cookie dough (for eating with a spoon rather than for cooking!), I would be a VERY happy girl!
