I always stayed at the Royal Resorts while visiting Cancun. The Royals are a timeshare resort. I rent from owners that aren’t going to be using their units. But since anyone can rent unsold units directly from the Royal Resorts, I also consider them to be a hotel. I’ve stayed at their VCI Club, (didn’t like the beach, too much seaweed), the Royal Mayan, (too far from the spa at the Royal Sands, El Centro, La Isla, Kukulkan Mall, etc.), and the Royal Sands phases I & II.
I can say my favorite is the Sands. It has a great location next to the Kukulcan Mall, the Royal Resorts, Marina is across the street, (sail boats, for free), and it’s only 5 mins. by bus to La Isla, and only about 20 mins. to El Centro, and has about the largest heated pool in Cancun and a great beach (now that it has been restored). The prices in the commissary and all the restaurants are reasonable, and the staff members are attentive and friendly. The facility is extremely well maintained and there is plenty to do without leaving the resort. When you’re a guest at any one of you have access to all (5) of them. They do tend to use their concierge service to feed people to their time-shares sales staff, but it’s a gentle push and easy to refuse. All in all I’ve been very pleased with my 5 stays with them over the years.

We’ve enjoyed every resort so far, but a few do stand out more than others. I guess the Riu Palace Las Americas really blew me away at the time. It was a free upgrade, so I didn’t expect to be staying there for the first thing. Everything about it was great. Rooms, service, food…….
I have to admit that LeBlanc comes very close, even excels in many areas over the RPLA, but since RPLA was my first “great” resort……so to say…….I think it’s still my favorite so far!

I think I must be the only person on the planet that HATED the Royal Sands! I thought the property was lovely, but the staff left much to be desired. They did not seem to understand the concept of ‘customer service’, or even how to be polite.
