A Family’s Christmas Vacation in Cancun Almost in Tatters
Or, literally, No Room at the Inn. My involvement with this extended familia of 15 began Thursday when I received from them an Order for Tours. As many of you know, through my websites CancunMX.comand CancunAndRivieraMaya.com, I work with Brant Boston of Entertainment Plus to offer affordable Tours to people traveling to Cancun and the Mayan Riviera. As usual with last minute Orders, E Plus was very efficient and I was able to e-mail the E-Vouchers to our Client that same day. We did have to change their Xcaret Tour from the public bus tour to E Plus’s private tour at no additional cost to them. The bus tour was full for the day (yesterday) they wanted.
Friday morning I received an e-mail from the Client’s Sister. She and her two children were not going to be able to go on the Xcaret Tour because they were not arriving in Cancun until late Saturday due to the winter storm that hit Denver. So I replied giving her the option to take the public tour on anaother day.
Later Friday afternoon I received an e-mail from her saying her family (including her daughter) had arrived at the El Pueblito only to find it was closed!! Staff at El Pueblito were there, and were assisting Guests for transfer to Hotetur Beach Paradise. However, the Client’s name was not on the list of those to be transferred. So they had no place to stay, at least, no timeshare place to stay.
Thus began numerous e-mails, IMs, phone calls, and text messages between the Sister, her Brother, Trina of E-Plus and me throughout the afternoon and evening. Luckily, the Sister stayed online and received my e-mails regarding finding a place to stay. Finally, after receiving a text message from his Sister, the Client called Trina. She had been able to find accomodations at the Salvia Condos for 2 nights. (I think Trina was able to make the request through our mutual friend Brian who owns Units at the Salvia.)
Trying to make the best of a bad situation, the family to their credit, went ahead with their trip to Xcaret. As of this writing, Sunday morning, they still do not have accomodations for tonight through the 29th. Stay tuned. Hopefully I will be able to report Good news soon. Tim
Update Sunday 4pm: Brian called everyone he knew to try to find them accomodation. They ended up staying downtown at Handall.
Update Monday 3pm: Crud, had the wrong Link for Brian’s Condos at the Salvia. It’s fixed now. ![]()

La Veranda, the restaurant in the Handall is wonderful! I hope your clients had a delicious Italian meal there.
By the way, the Handall is in an excellent location in downtown Cancun. If you want to visit Cancun and not break the bank by staying in one of the more expensive resorts in the hotel zone, this hotel is a nice alternative.
